The space efficient Wakayama platform bed frame features interlocking Japanese joinery assembly and mattress to frame correspondence. Constructed of solid hardwood (Parawood, also known as rubber tree wood), the Japanese architectural influenced bed frame has pyramid-shaped inset legs, two center support legs, and center support with wooden slats less than two inches apart. This versatile bed frame may be used with or without a box spring, and the height of this headboard is adjustable to accommodate a 10 or 13 inch mattress. *Headboards are sold separately.

I am very happy with my natural finish platform bed! I was impressed with the quality and the weight of each solid wood piece! I bet these beds can last 100 years.
Each section was wrapped and packaged very well. Shipped across the country from coast to coast and not a scratch or nick on it!
Some customers said they wished the platform extended 3-5 inches beyond the size of their mattress on all sides. I like that look, too.
BUT I am glad my queen mattress fits exactly to the edges of the queen platform and there is no excess. I'm older and short, and like that my shins or calves do not have to hit the wood of the platform to get in or out of bed. It really gives the appearance of the bed "floating" too. Love it!
The only teeny-tiny complaint is about shipping.
Now I do NOT blame Tatami Room for this, but maybe they can do something to prevent it:
My bed and headboard consisted of FIVE packages. All 5 boxes shipped out together, at the same time, from the same place (I assume). When my boxes hit NJ, they were separated into three different trucks, for delivery on two different days! It was very inconvenient waiting for all the boxes to arrive at different times on different days before we could put the bed together. We had to sleep with our old mattress on the floor until everything got here.

As said in previous posts, these beds are rock solid in their construction and finish. I got the natural finish and it's nice and light. This particular bed was the king sized one, so nothing larger available.
That is my biggest issue, is that the king sized mattress covers the platform portion of the bed from side to side and top to bottom; no headboard on this purchase (though I also ordered a Queen with headboard for my other son). So all that's basically left when I look at this bed is a mattress over top of very small barely visible feet.
So now I have a very nicely constructed solid bed that will disassemble and move very easily, eventually, that I can barely see. So the cost, to me, isn't worth the daily value of the bed itself. It's my opinion the bed should be 3" wider on each side (so 6" wider total) and 3" longer so that the platform extends well beyond the edges of the mattress.
I could have bought a steel bed frame from the big A retailer for $800 less, times two actually.

We already loved this bed since we first purchased one for our guest room this past winter. When it came time to furnish our master bedroom we did not think twice before deciding to get the Wakayama again - this time in a different color. Beautiful, solidly made, incredibly sturdy and elegant!

Very attractive and beautifully made. Heirloom quality, in fact. Assembly instructions were easy to follow. Outstanding value -- highly recommended.

Just got my bed assembled and it is great. It was packaged very well, so it took a while to remove all the packaging, but there were no scratches or dents on my bed frame. The fedex delivery people did have a deer-caught-in-headlights look when they explained there were four more boxes. The whole thing comes together like a jigsaw puzzle and has bolts that are superfluous, but probably there to fulfill some federal regulation or other, because American beds are assembled differently. The only place bolts are necessary is attaching the headboard to the frame. There is no shifting or creaking in the frame as I move about, even without bolts. That's how good the construction is.
The bed is smaller than it looks in the picture. My Full size mattress looks like it belongs there on the Queen frame. Many times I'll see a picture of books or drinks on the shelf framing other Japanese platform beds. This platform is not wide enough if that is you're expectation, but you can still use it as a temporary shelf if you size up. So if you have a queen and want the shelf to frame your bed, get the king version. Ideally, I'd like the mattress to sit over the slats only, and leave the shelf clear making it look like a floating bed. If you don't size up, the bed frame will be completely hidden by the mattress. Considering how beautiful this frame is, that would be a loss.
This bed looked so good in the advert I decided to get it anyway even though I had a full bed and didn't want to upgrade. I'm glad I did. Now that it is assembled, I realize that I don't need a Queen after all, because full is plenty.
Because this deconstructs so easily, and packs well, this is a good bed for families that move often.

My wife and I had been looking for a king sized low platform bed for a few weeks when we discovered the WAKAYAMA PLATFORM BED - NATURAL FINISH. After emailing with customer service a few times requesting additional details and more pictures of the bed frame itself we decided to purchase. It shipped to AZ so it took just under a week to arrive. I think it took as long to unpack everything as it did to put it together (about 90min total). We ordered a king frame with headboard which came in five immaculately packed boxes. No chance of anything getting damaged. Once unpacked assembly was very easy. Just a few bolts in the support beam and a few more in the headboard and we were done and ready for sleep. We have a foam mattress and it fit perfectly on the frame. The frame is solid high quality Pará wood and has a silky smooth finish. My wife and I are very happy with our new bed. We would recommend it and Tatami Room to anyone.
